Jakarta, 21 April 2025 - Kartini opened the door for Indonesian women to be independent, now they are spreading their wings relentlessly. In the spirit of Kartini Day, KS Orka Renewables Pte. Ltd. as one of the renewable geothermal power development companies in Indonesia reinforces its commitment to create a more inclusive, safe, and empowering work environment for women in the geothermal energy sector.
As of March 2025, women have made up 20% of the total employees at KS Orka Renewables Pte. Ltd., a significant number for a sector that has been dominated by men. This figure is in line with the increasing trend of women's participation in the geothermal sector globally, which rose from only 10% in 1980 to 22% in 2023, according to data from Women in Geothermal (WING).
"We believe that an equitable energy transition must provide equal space and opportunities for women. KS Orka Renewables Pte. Ltd. not only opens opportunities, but also assists women to grow professionally in the geothermal sector. Now, these strong women are carrying out their duties in various strategic positions from technical, non-technical, operational to managerial sides at KS Orka Renewables Pte. Ltd. and all its subsidiaries." said Ali Sahid as VP Corporate Relations & Stakeholder KS Orka Renewables Pte. Ltd.
This can be achieved by presenting various technical training programs, cross-country mentoring, and the involvement of local women in the geothermal sector value chain. One of the inspiring figures who grew up with KS Orka is Adethia Lufti Nasution or Thia, who has served for more than eight years as a Reliability Engineer at PT Sorik Marapi Geothermal Power (SMGP), a work unit of KS Orka Renewables Pte. Ltd. in Mandailing Natal, North Sumatra.
"Kartini is my inspiration as a woman to continue to grow, inspire and contribute in the scope that I am qualified for. I realize, no matter how small the contribution of women in an organization, we are actually contributing to the growth of a generation." Thia said.
Women empowerment is in line with one of KS Orka Renewables Pte. Ltd.'s core value, Respect, which emphasizes treating colleagues with respect and dignity, especially for women. Aside from the operational side, KS Orka Renewables Pte. Ltd. also shows its support for women's empowerment through strengthening local women-owned MSMEs and community involvement around its two working areas, namely: PT Sorik Marapi Geothermal Power (PT SMGP) in Mandailing Natal, North Sumatra and PT Sokoria Geothermal Indonesia (PT SGI) in Ende, East Nusa Tenggara through various Community Development and Community Relations (CDCR) programs conducted.
As part of the Kaishan Group that has a presence in more than 12 countries, KS Orka Renewables Pte. Ltd. is committed to supporting the Net Zero Emission 2060 target through an energy transition that is inclusive, sustainable and rooted in human values.
