13 November 2024 – Sosian Menengai Geothermal Power, a geothermal project in Kenya supported by Kaishan Group (sponsor of KS Orka), celebrated the groundbreaking ceremony for its Menengai III Power Plant on October 24th, 2024. This milestone became Kaishan Group's second milestone to contribute to Kenya’s geothermal development, after successfully installing Menengai I Power Plant.
Menengai III Power Plant is supported by Kaishan Group’s modular power plant technology, which is powered by their advanced expander technology. This technology enables the project to maximize efficiency, reduce costs, and enhance scalability. In 14 months, the construction of Menengai III will be completed and the power will be put to the grid, supporting the nation’s growing demand for renewable energy.
In alignment with Kenya’s net-zero objectives, Kaishan Group’s initiative extend beyond geothermal electricity generation. Leveraging geothermal power, Kaishan aims to produce green hydrogen and green ammonia that will benefit Kenya’s agriculture. It can also be used as a fuel to replace diesel and eventually will reduce the carbon dioxide emission.
Dr. Yan Tang, President Director of KS Orka, attended the Menengai III groundbreaking ceremony and shared,
“With unwavering commitment and support, this great project will create a new landmark of the green industrialization in Africa.”
